Kent ISD Special Education Coaching & Consultation Services
Kent ISD provides coaching and consultation in the following areas:
- Autism – Support for students, teachers, and Autism/ECSE programming
- Behavior – Support for students, teachers, and EI/ECSE programming
- Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) – Support for students, teachers, and Resource/CI programming
- Functional Communication/AAC/AT - Support for students and all levels of programming

Definitions of Services
Coaching
- Requested by a director or supervisor
- Includes a Collaborative Coaching Plan with defined goals, activities, and pacing aligned to High-Quality Program Guides
- Typically extends over six or more weeks
- Involves modeling, co-facilitation, and capacity-building
- Requires data collection and ongoing progress monitoring
- May include collaboration with other Kent ISD departments
- Focused on achieving implementation fidelity
- Includes an expansion plan and post-evaluation process
Consultation
- Requested by a director or supervisor
- Short-term support (typically 1–3 sessions)
- May include observations, planning, or problem-solving around specific needs
- Team-led implementation of recommendations
Technical Assistance
- Multiple sources of request
- Does not require observation, team support, or formalized consultation
- Response to a specific request
- Typically involves providing step-by-step guidance
- Examples: professional development/office hours providing resources, IEP support or SL-CAP from GSM, FBA & PBSP review
How To Request Services
Coaching
- Available at the student, teacher/team, or systems level
- Requires director/supervisor approval
- Involves the development of collaborative goals and identified outcomes
Consultation
- Available at the student and/or teacher/team level
- Short-term (1–3 meetings and/or observations)
- Includes a summary of recommendations and resources
Professional Development
- Customized training on a range of special education topics
- Delivered by Kent ISD coaches and consultants
IEP Facilitation
- Support for efficient, collaborative, and student-centered IEP meetings
Educational Benefit Review (EBR) Facilitation
- Assistance navigating complex reviews to determine educational benefit
