Pre-Service and New Teachers

Build Confidence and Find Success in Your Classroom!

We believe that the most effective way to support new teachers is by providing a network of support! As a pre-service or new teacher, you may be looking for ways to build your confidence as a teacher and find success in your classroom. We know how hard it can be to find that balance between building your skills and starting out on the right track with your professional learning. That's why we're here for you.

We know that the best way for new teachers to learn is through collaboration with other teachers who are just like them. We offer practical professional learning opportunities and guidance on building your skills so that you can succeed right out of the gate as a teacher. We also have networking opportunities so that you can connect with other new teachers who are going through similar experiences and share ideas about how to make it work!

Ingersoll and Strong found that, “Almost all of the studies that we reviewed showed that beginning teachers who participated in some kind of induction had higher satisfaction, commitment, or retention”. Additionally, they found that these beginning teachers kept students on task better, developed good lesson plans, used effective discussion techniques, had positive classroom environments, adjusted instruction appropriately, and managed classrooms effectively. (Schwan et al., p 225)

Pre-Service and New Teacher Supports and Services

Our main goal is to assist you in your journey as a new teacher. We provide various supports and services to ensure your success. We have designed a program that offers three options to help you fulfill the SCECH requirements in your initial three years of teaching. This program will enable you to earn credits while gaining valuable skills.

Professional Learning

Enrolling in the New Teacher Professional Learning Modules is a fantastic opportunity to earn credits. These modules are interactive and engaging, tailored to meet your unique requirements. Upon completing the program, teachers can earn a maximum of 90 SCECHs (30 SCECHs per year). These modules will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive as a successful educator.

Networking Opportunities

Another option for earning credits is to attend our New Teacher Dinner and Dialogue event, where newly qualified teachers in years 1-3 can connect. During this event, you can share your experiences and best practices and receive support from peers in similar positions. Attending this event can earn teachers up to 10 credits per year.

Coaching

Our coaching program offers a third way to earn credits. It is designed to provide personalized support to pre-service and new teachers who need guidance. Our Kent ISD mentor will work closely with you to help you achieve your goals and succeed in the classroom. For every hour of coaching, teachers can earn 1 SCECH.
