Many educational options for online classes and learning connections are being offered for students at all grade levels this summer as Kent ISD brings back Summer Brain Gain in 2022.  Educators have generated courses to keep learning going all summer with many options free of charge.

Kent ISD’s Summer Brain Gain provides online learning and educational resources and connections, as well as packets that can be downloaded and printed for students in grades K-12. Registration for instructor-led courses is available by grade level for students starting June 1.  These courses will be offered in July and August.

“We know from the success of Summer Brain Gain in the past couple of years that thousands of students participated in courses with curriculum developed and gathered by experts in instruction,” said Kelli Brockway, Director of Teaching and Learning at Kent ISD. “The idea is to bridge the learning gap between June and the start of the new school year.”

Summer Brain Gain programs include instructor-led 2-week online courses in subjects such as Science, Coding, History, Reading and more, plus connections to vetted online apps, resources and links to learning that children and teens can engage in on their own. Summer Brain Gain also links students and families to educational offerings by area cultural and community organizations who are School News Network Education Everywhere partners such as John Ball Zoo, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum, Van Andel Education Institute, Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park and more. All resources are located at kentisd.org/SummerBrainGain.

Packets can be downloaded for printing at library locations starting in June through partnerships with Kent District Library, Grand Rapids Public Library and Literacy Center of West Michigan.
