We advance student wellness by leading and supporting high-quality school health services. Through policy guidance and collaboration, we strengthen the physical and mental health supports necessary for student success.
General Information
Applying the Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) model, the School Nurse Consultant’s services focus on systemic health leadership and individualized student care:
Tier 1: Universal Health Supports
- Policy & Protocol Leadership: Supports the development of model health policies, best practices, and pandemic protocols to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff.
- Professional Development: Provides training and leadership to improve the quality of school health services across all county districts and programs.
- Compliance & Safety: Supports the monitoring of health service areas to ensure they meet legal standards for medication storage and equipment maintenance.
- Resource Advocacy: Acts as a liaison between schools and community agencies to advocate for public health needs.
Tier 2: Targeted Health Supports
- Staffing & Recruitment: Assists local districts with hiring nurses for specific programs or transportation needs.
- Program Identification: Implements systems to identify groups of students who require specialized health care plans.
- Funding Optimization: Trains staff on Medicaid (Caring 4 Students) reimbursement to sustain health programming.
Tier 3: Intensive Health Supports
- Direct Consultation: Collaborates with administrators to select and orient nurses for specific individual student needs.
- Data-Driven Intervention: Coordinates the collection of accurate health data to monitor and report on the effectiveness of intensive health services.
