General Information
Social-Emotional-Behavioral Health (SEBH) is an integrated approach within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. It focuses on fostering resilience, positive relationships, and the ability to manage emotions and stress, by aligning social-emotional skills, behavioral supports, and mental health practices into one cohesive system.
To ensure every student receives the right level of care, schools utilize the PBIS+ model, which focuses on two main levels of support:
Universal (Tier 1): Support for All Students
These classroom and schoolwide practices create a safe, proactive foundation for every learner:
- Core Frameworks: Schoolwide PBIS, PBIS in the Classroom, and Restorative Practices
- Curricula & Screening: Systematic SEL instruction and universal SEBH screening.
- Crisis Prevention and Postvention: Behavioral Threat Assessment & Management (BTAM), mental health crisis response, suicide prevention & risk management, trauma-informed practices, and verbal de-escalation techniques.
Advanced Tiers (Tier 2 & Tier 3): Targeted & Intensive Support
For students who need more than the universal foundation, supports include:
- Formalized Teaming: Multidisciplinary teams that meet regularly to review student needs.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Using screening and behavioral data to select the right supports.
- Evidence-Based Interventions: Targeted small-group or individualized mental health and behavioral strategies.
