Non-Traditional Professional Development Programs 

 

Twenty-Five (25) SCECHs may be earned for the activites below after each academic semester. A maximum of 75 SCECHs can be earned in a five year renewal period in each of the listed activities.

 

Supervision of Student Teacher/Teacher Intern – 

Twenty Five SCECHs are awarded for a college placement period of not less than eight weeks.  A supervising teacher must prepare and submit to the building principal and/or the teacher preparation institution’s representative an evaluation of the student teacher/teacher intern’s performance.  Verification must be submitted to the SCECH Coordinator no later than 30 days following the end date of the activity.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 25 SCECHs per semester are awarded.

New Teacher Mentor –

Twenty Five SCECHs are awarded for a placement period of a full semester of an academic year.  A mentor teacher must prepare and submit to the building principal and/or district’s superintendent an evaluation of the mentoring process.  Verification must be submitted to the SCECH Coordinator no later than 30 days following the end date of the activity.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 30 SCECHs per semester are awarded.

School Counselor Mentor –

Twenty Five SCECHs are awarded for a placement period of a full semester of an academic year.  A mentor school counselor must prepare and submit to the building principal and/or district’s superintendent an evaluation of the mentoring process.  Verification must be submitted to the SCECH Coordinator no later than 30 days following the end date of the activity.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal. Only 25 SCECHs per semester are awarded.

Supervision of School Counselor Internship - 

Twenty Five SCECHs may be earned for supervising a school counselor for a full placement period of not less than eight weeks.  A supervising school counselor must provide documentation of being assigned to serve as a supervising school counselor to the building principal along with an evaluation of the supervision process for the application period.  The signature of the building principal on the verification form will provide verification of the successful completion of the professional development assignment.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 25 SCECHs per semester are awarded. 

Supervision of School Psychologist Required Practicum/Internship –

Twenty Five SCECHs may be earned for supervising a school psychologist practicum/internship for a full placement period of not less than eight weeks.  A supervising school psychologist must provide documentation of being assigned to serve as a supervising school psychologist to the building principal along with an evaluation of the supervision process for the application period.  The signature of the building principal on the verification form will provide verification of the successful completion of the professional development assignment.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 25 SCECHs per semester are awarded.

School Psychologist Mentor –

Supervision of Pre-Teaching/Mid-Tier/Pre-Service Student

A teacher may earn up to fifteen (15) SCECHs for supervising a higher education student doing their Pre-Teaching/Mid-tier/Pre-Service observation. A supervisor for a Pre-Teaching/Mid-tier/Pre-Service Student must provide documentation of being assigned to serve as a supervising Pre- Teaching/Mid-tier/Pre-Service Student to the building principal for the application period. All supervisory hours must be documented by keeping a log of activities and contact with student. The building principal must sign the verification form, which includes a log of time spent with the student, to provide verification of the successful completion of the assignment. The signed verification form and log must be received by the local SCECH Coordinator a maximum of 30 days after assignment has been completed. This non-traditional activity may only be used a maximum of three (3) times toward certificate renewal within an educator’s certificate renewal period.

Twenty five (25) SCECHs may be earned for the activities listed below after a full academic year. A maximum of 75 SCECHs can be earned in a five year renewal period in each of the listed activities. 

 

New Principal/Administrator Mentor –

Twenty Five SCECHs may be earned for a full school year.  An assigned mentoring administrator/principal must mentor for at least a full school year.  A new administrator/principal mentor must submit to the superintendent for evaluation the goals, objectives, and an evaluation of the mentoring process for the application period.  The signature of the district superintendent on the verification form will serve as confirmation of the successful completion of the mentoring assignment.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 25 SCECHs per school year are awarded.

K-12 School Improvement Team –

The candidate must participate in ¾ of the scheduled School Improvement Team meetings, but not less than six meetings.  This means if you only have six meetings scheduled, you have to attend all six.

Twenty Five SCECHs may be awarded for participation on a School Improvement Team for a full school year.  The candidate must be an active member of the local or intermediate school board approved Public Act 25 School Improvement Team.  Participants must have verified attendance at a minimum of ¾ of the scheduled School Improvement Team meetings, but not less than six meetings, to be eligible for SCECHs.  The signature of the building principal on the verification form will provide verification of the successful completion of the professional development assignment.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 25 SCECHs per school year are awarded.

Original sign in/out sheets signed by a monitor and agendas for each meeting must be turned in at the end of the year with the participant verification forms.

School Committee Meetings –

The candidate must participate in ¾ of the scheduled School Committee Meetings, but not less than six meetings.  This means if you only have six meetings scheduled, you have to attend all six.

Twenty Five SCECHs may be earned for a full school year.  Partial credit is not allowed.  An applicant cannot earn more than twenty five SCECHs per school year, regardless of the number of different assigned committees.  Mixing and matching of committee meetings is not allowed.  School committees must meet a minimum of six times during the school year.  Participants must have verified attendance at a minimum of ¾ of the scheduled committee meetings, but not less than six meetings, to be eligible for SCECHs.  A maximum of 75 SCECHs in this activity in a five-year renewal period can be used toward certificate renewal.  Only 25 SCECHs per school year are awarded.

 Original sign in/out sheets signed by a monitor and agendas for each meeting must be turned in at the end of the year with the participant verification forms.
