GRADUATE CREDIT, SCECH AND SOCIAL WORKER CONTINUING ED INFORMATION

What are SCECHs and who qualifies to earn them?
Individuals who hold the following certificates are eligible to obtain and use SCECHs toward certificate/licensure renewal:

  • The Professional Education Certificate
  • The Occupation Education Certificate
  • The School Psychologist Certificate
  • The School Guidance Counselor License
  • Permanent Certificate

The above certificates require renewal every five years. The renewal requirement includes the completion of six semester hours of appropriate coursework through an approved institution, 150 SCECHs, or a combination of both. School Administrators are also required to complete six semester hours, 150 SCECHs, or a combination of both every five years for continued employment.

State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) are State Board-approved in-service, workshop, training, or conference credits that are used for the renewal of selected certificates issued by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). SCECHs are the total number of contact or instructional hours. Thus, an 8-hour session would be eligible to receive eight (8) SCECHs. Generic clock hours cannot be used toward renewal of Michigan Teacher or School Psychologist Certificate. Only State approved SCECH training counts toward certificate renewal. All Kent ISD courses that offer SCECH credit are State approved SCECHs.

Click here  for additional SCECHs information.

Is there a fee for SCECHs?
Yes, there is a small fee of $5 for individuals to apply for SCECH's for each course at Kent ISD. Please bring a $5 bill with you on the first day of the course.

What do I have to do to earn SCECH credit?
You are required to:

  • pay $5 to Kent ISD (this is non-refundable service fee),
  • fill out an SCECH application,
  • 100% attendance, verified by signing in and out each day of the course,

All steps above must be completed in order to receive credit.

What is the Secure Central Registry?
The Secure Central Registry (SCR) will provide educators and administrators with the ability to track all SCECHs awarded to them (after January 1, 2010) in one central location. To use the system, all educators and administrators will need to log-in to the SCR and create a personal account. Visit the SCR website

I applied for SCECH credit and received two evaluations, which one do I fill out?
Please fill out both evaluations. You will receive an evaluation invitation from the PD Hub. This evaluation is sent to all participants to gain valuable feedback about your experience at our professional learning opportunities. The information is used to improve and help us to provide outstanding professional development opportunities for all educators.

You will also receive an evaluation invitation from Carol Weih. The SCR system requires the use of a common evaluation, which will provide greater detail on program quality for all participants in all SCECH programs. SCECH coordinators will upload participation records, triggering an automated email to each participant that requests completion of the common evaluation. SCECHs will be processed when the evaluation has been completed. You will have 30 days to complete this evaluation and then it will be removed from the system.
