Kent Transition Center

Kent Transition Center - Building Skills for Tomorrow's Careers

KTC provides a proven combination of entry level job skills, career training and experience in the workplace for high school juniors and seniors.  These are students who are academically challenged, at risk or prefer hands-on learning. We feature a combination of small classrooms and lab learning experiences with real job site training. These carefully planned learning experiences help students make the transition from high school to the work world.

Nearly 90 area companies partner with our staff to provide work site training, advisory committee members and help our students become successful, productive citizens. There is no additional cost to our local school districts for students enrolled at KTC!

1. Choose It - Our Discovery Center helps you choose!

Our Discovery Center offers hundreds of students in local high schools the opportunity to analyze their skills and interests, consider career options and determine if a KTC program is right for them.  Students learn about the classes offered at KTC, identify their interests and talents and have the opportunity to "test drive" classes before deciding which class they want to enroll in.

2. Learn It - Learn what you need to succeed!

Once students choose a KTC program, dedicated staff help students explore careers, learn specific job skills and make important connections to the work world. What do employers expect in an employee? What skills provide an edge in the marketplace? At KTC, you'll learn this and a lot more. You'll develop the qualities and skills employers look for, plus get training in specific job areas. From Business Administration and Technology, Retail and Facilities Maintenance to Hospitality and Landscape/Horticulture and more, KTC will get you started on your career. Students also work towards a National Career Readiness Certificate and complete portfolios detailing the skills they’ve learned.

3. Do It - Hands-on learning means doing!

Many students find success with this type of learning. You'll be actively involved with meaningful activities where you can see the results. You will also work with other students and teachers to complete projects and meet goals. Plus, hands-on learning is fun!

In our unique second year program called KTC2, students go out to the workplace to apply their skills, with the help of staff who work with them on the job site, and the supportive businesses and organizations which open their doors to us. Students get an up-close work experience and can make more informed decisions about their career goals.

Small Class Sizes Offer a Better Experience

You'll have a chance to build solid relationships with teachers and other students. You can get more help with less waiting when student to staff ratio does not exceed 10 to 1. You will get the attention you need to do your best. With smaller classes, teachers find it easier to communicate with parents and keep everyone informed.
