Meet our Office Staff
Duane Kiley, Principal
My name is Duane Kiley. I am the administrator for Kent Career Tech Center and the Transition Center. My experience in education includes Psychologist, Social Worker, Career and Technical Education administrator, Migrant Education administrator, and Special Education administrator. The last twenty plus years has been in administrative positions. My doctorate is in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on differentiated instruction.
I believe that everyone learns and processes information differently. The only effective instruction is applied instruction that uses a multitude of learning methods. Without application to the real world, learning loses its context and becomes meaningless. This is one of the reasons I so enjoy working in Career and Technical Education at KCTC and the Transition Center.
Linda Nawrocki, Administrative Assistant
Hello, I’m Linda Nawrocki, Administrative Assistant to the Principal. I have been at the Transition Center for 14 years, starting as Receptionist for two years. I love working in a school and helping ensure we offer a great experience for our students. I especially love seeing the students become independent and proud of who they are and knowing their potential!
Prior to the Transition Center, I worked as an office manager for a home appraiser and several years in secretarial positions for Meijer, Inc. I am a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a minor in Information Systems.
My husband and I have three grown children. I like to read, play cards & games, and spend time at the lake, but I cherish most the time together having fun with family and friends. I would love to see other parts of the country and hope to do some traveling in my future. I like watching sports and am an avid fan of Michigan State University! Go Green!
Vicki Bickel, Registrar
My name is Vicki Bickel and I have worked for Kent Transition Center for 7 years. I am the registrar for both Kent Transition Center and Kent Innovation High. I also help Kent Career Technical Center when they need additional support with registration. I love the programs we offer here and how they can positively impact students futures.
Before coming to Kent ISD I was registrar out in the Seattle Washington area for 4 years. I also have HR/Benefits experience for the school district I worked with out there for 6 years.
I’ve been married to my college sweetheart for a LONG time, but it doesn’t feel that long. I am the proud mother of 3 adult children and doting grandmother to 4 grandchildren. I enjoy gardening, reading, crafting, getting to know people from other cultures and helping them adapt to the U.S.
Jennifer Thornton, Receptionist
After 18 years in the corporate world and 3 years staying at home with my young boys, it was time to get back to work. I knew this time I wanted to be able to work and help people. I am able to do this as the Receptionist and Attendance clerk here at the Kent Transition Center. I enjoy coming to work and seeing the students every day.
Outside of work I like spending time with my husband and 2 sons. We like being active outdoors with hiking and kayaking. In my alone time, which is rare, I like to work on vinyl crafts.
