West Michigan and the Grand Rapids Area,
in partnership with the Close-Up Foundation, have been national leaders in citizenship education for over three decades. Close-Up was first introduced to the Grand Rapids area in 1975. Our local leaders, including President Gerald Ford, have always understood the importance of citizenship education.
Close-Up
Over the years, local leaders have generously donated o support Close Up providing for fellowships for student civic education and teacher professional development where there is economic need. Now more than three decades and 12,000 students later, the State of Michigan's participation in Close Up is the 2nd largest in the nation.
