A Consortium of Services for Schools and Communities in Kent, Ionia, and
Montcalm Counties
Presented and Coordinated by Kent Intermediate School District
What is the Kent Intermediate School District Consortium?
A consortium of schools and communities was organized in 1986 with Kent Intermediate School District for the purpose of more efficiently providing and coordinating a full range of services and resources for students, parents and educators in Kent, Ionia and Montcalm Counties.
Why was the consortium formed?
The consortium was formed by the Kent Intermediate School District to help schools and communities:
- jointly plan and provide a variety of more affordable critical support services for local districts,
- avoid unnecessary or duplicating costs that may be caused by uncoordinated efforts,
- more efficiently "network" programs between the local districts,
- adopt more programs that provide additional services with minimal investment or costs to local districts and communities.
The consortium is a very successful program that has been recognized by the State of Michigan for efficient, coordinated delivery of services; it is a model for other intermediate school districts that wish to more effectively respond to the needs of local schools.
What are the Services of the Consortium?
The Kent Intermediate School District coordinates and provides many important services to the local school districts and communities in the consortium - these services are either designed to respond to critical needs among all of the districts or they are customized to help any school or community that is needful of the services.
And these are a few of the essential services provided by the Kent Intermediate School District:
- training programs and workshops for educators, parents, and students;
- preparing policies and procedures for local districts;
- writing grant applications for schools and communities;
- providing personalized consultation and technical assistance;
- evaluating programs, and
- networking or coordinating programs between local districts.
The services are excellent... and we agree with the reasons for organizing the consortium. Working together is a more efficient way of managing our decreasing resources.
Now, what kinds of programs can you receive from the Kent Intermediate School District?
The Kent Intermediate School District will provide all of the outlined services: training programs, workshops, preparing policies and procedures, writing grant applications, consultation and technical assistance, etc., to local districts and communities for a variety of programs.
