WorkKeys
The ACT WorkKeys tests are widely used in education and industry. They are designed to measure a person's ability to apply knowledge and skills to workplace situations.
The State of Michigan has approved the ACT WorkKeys tests to certify paraprofessionals for the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and students for the Merit Award. Tests measure several subject areas including reading, mathematics and writing.
Taking these three WorkKeys tests: Reading for Information; Applied Mathemateics and Information, will start adults and students on the road to gaining their National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).

To meet the qualifications of the NCLB and the Merit Award, all tests must be taken at a Certified WorkKeys Center and meet the required score level.
WorkKeys for Paraprofessionals (NCLB)
To become certified as a paraprofessional, a level 4 score in both reading and mathematics is required, while a level 3 score in writing is needed. Paraprofessionals who have completed two years of study at an institution of higher education or have obtained an associate degree, can be exempt from taking the WorkKeys assessments. Those interested in obtaining a paraprofessional position after January 8, 2002, must have already met the NCLB requirements.
WorkKeys for High School Students
Students must also meet all other eligibility requirements in order to use ACT WorkKeys for the Michigan Promise award.
