Kent ISD Expenditures
Constituent Relations, Government Communication and Legal Expenses
Kent ISD plays an integral, but often transparent, role in educating students and acting as an advocate for their needs. Most people relate our work to the direct education of more than 2,600 students attending career and technical education classes each day on our campus, which would place Kent ISD 10th among the districts it serves in total student population. But our work goes far beyond that. Our goal is to improve student achievement and provide excellent customer service for each of the nearly 120,000 students in our region, their families and the schools they attend. That requires direct communication with parents and community leaders, government communication and advocacy. While this is important work, it consumes an extremely small portion of the Kent ISD budget. Last year, this amounted to 0.035 percent of Kent ISD’s expenditures.
We Lead Learning. At Kent ISD, that is more than our vision statement. It is the expectation of our community and the schools we serve. Leadership is provided at all levels here, from the superintendents who counsel and mentor their peers at local districts to finance and operations experts who work directly with their colleagues in the field to reduce overhead expenses by applying their expertise to the administrative challenges schools face.
Examples of this leadership are found in the reduced expense incurred by member districts in technology expense as a result of Kent ISD’s leadership in student and staff data administration, which is offered to the schools we serve at no cost or far below market rates. In 2010-11, administrative expense was only 1.1 percent of the total budget.
