Coit Creative Arts Academy ~  We are proud to be the COBRAS!

COBRAS is not just a school mascot.  It is an acronym that helps our students and staff remember who they are and why they are destined for success from the minute they walk into our school. Cobras are:

Our school's Positive Behavioral Support program utilizes the concepts in COBRAS to empower our students to make positive choices and take responsibility for their actions and their learning.

EXCITING THINGS HAPPENING AT COIT!

Twice-monthly dinner and worship time at Coit

Monroe Community Church, a strong supporter of Coit, has sponsored Kids Life after school Bible club for our students each week for the past three years. This year they are continuing to reach out even farther to our families by providing a family meal along with worship time twice each month. Many familiies have attended and have had a good time. The meals are the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 6:15pm and will last through the end of the year.

Coit students go to The Nutcracker - December, 2010

All 277 Coit students and staff attended the holiday ballet The Nutcracker free of charge, compliments of theGrand Rapids Ballet. The staff and students had a wonderful time, with comments heard from students when they returned about who was going to play the "mouse king" on the playground at recess and who was going to be the princess! Exposure to the great arts opportunities in our community is so important for our students who experience the arts as integral to their elementary school experience. We are so thankful to the Grand Rapids Ballet and the GRPS fine arts department for this fabulous experience!

GVSU students at Coit Creative Arts Academy

A collaborative effort between Grand Valley State University School of Education  and Coit Creative Arts Academy has proven to be beneficial to all. College students earn class credit as well as service-learning credit through Big Brothers Big Sisters for working one-on-one with elementary students. College students win by learning to work with students. Coit students win by increased reading levels. The schools both win by the show of community support and partnership. The collaboration has been successfully running since the 2007-08 school year. The GVSU class will be returning to Coit in January of 2011 for another wonderful semester of fun and learning between the Grand Valley and Coit students!
