Overview...
Formerly known as Hall Elementary, Cesar E. Chavez is a Pre-K through 5th Grade level Neighbrood School. Its beautiful newly built landmark is located on the Southwest side of Grand Rapids, in the heart of the Latino community. Historiically, it has educated a vast immigrant population. Our school has a very diverse student body which is comprised of students who hail from Central American countries as well as Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Approximately 94% of our students come from homes where Spanish is their first language. Cesar Chavez Elementary is one of the language centers in the Grand Rapids Public School system. It counts with a Transitional Bilingual Prgram which allows students to learn in their native language, while making the transition to English.English as a Second Language (ESL) is implemented as well to support English Language Learner students.
Our school serves approximately 470 students and counts with an outstanding team of teachers and support staff committed to developing school programs and activities that involve and equip students, parents/guardians, with needed skills and resources to assist their children in attaining their highest potential. As of the beginning of school year 2010, our school became a Commuity School through the efforts of the Kent School Services Network and the Arbor Circle Corporation. Through this collaboration, Cesar Chavez now counts with a full-time Community School Coordinator and a full-time Site Team Clinician. Their roles are as follows:
