Educator in the Workplace
Educator in the Workplace is one of the most unique and relevant experiences you’ll find. Whether you teach or counsel middle or high school students – in any academic subject – this is a don’t-miss professional development week.
Immerse yourself...
Into local businesses that care about education and your students. See for yourself how teams, projects and even whole companies work and learn. Observe 21st Century Employability Skills in action and find new ways to use them in the classroom. Experience your field of study in a whole new way – in daily application and work routines - and find new ways to prepare your students for college and careers.
Plus, you’ll get to know business partners who are eager to provide a window into their work. They will serve as hosts in their company and help demonstrate the skills your students need to succeed. During the fall semester, they'll come to your workplace - the classroom - and serve as a guest speaker/resource.
A Unique Experience...
During this 5 day immersion program, you’ll partner with two local businesses to:
- Immerse yourself in behind-the-scenes work at each organization - like testing packaging at Amway
- Identify real-world connections with your work and the private sector - like seeing how physics is used at Consumers Energy
- Discover the skills and behaviors your students need to succeed - like professional communication and teamwork
- Get inside organizations like Granger Construction, Flexco, the VanAndel Institute, Cascade Engineering, L-3 Avionics, Mindscape at Hannon McKendry, The Rapid, Wolverine Coil & Spring, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, Gymco
The final morning is set aside for evaluation and resource sharing. You’ll finish the program with an informal presentation to your business hosts at a celebration lunch.
