Traumatic Brain Injury Transition Team
Traumatic Brain Injury Transition Team (TBITT)
Many public school students sustain traumatic brain injuries (an assault on the brain due to an external force) during the school year. Most transition back to their home school. In some cases, the student has lingering effects from the brain injury, and educational staff often have a limited knowledge of how a brain injury can affect learning. The Traumatic Brain Injury Transition Team (TBITT) provides educational resources to educational staff, students with brain injuries, and their families and peers during the transition from a medical setting to the educational setting. Each local district has a designated person to assist with this transition. While this individual is not the case manager, he/she can provide resource materials on how best to help the student be successful. This TBITT member is available as long a necessary to facilitate transition and can return later if a problem arises. This often happens with the change from an elementary building to a secondary building when the structure and expectations change.
The TBI Transition Team
The TBITT meets regularly at Kent ISD to coordinate services and plan for students. TBITT is comprised of people from multiple Kent ISD districts and diverse backgrounds. Each district not represented by a TBITT member has a designated liaison person who assists with transitions. TBITT members (click here for a list of current members) represnt disciplines such as:
