UK Teachers Visit Kent ISD
United Kingdom Teachers Visit Kent ISD
Last month Kent ISD hosted a group of seven teachers from the United Kingdom on a visit ot Michigan's schools to explore math and science programs. The teachers experienced a variety of programs and best practices with hopes of taking some great new ideas back to England.
The teachers began their visit with a tour of Kent Career Tech Center's Aeronautics program at Gerald R. Ford Airport. They then headed to Kent ISD's Educational Service Center to learn about some great Student Improvement programs including the Data Warehouse, IGOR, Smart Goals and math curriculum development.
The second day of the teacher's visit was a trip to Burton Elementary/Middle School in Grand Rapids. They learned how a district with 90% English Language Learners and 90% poverty tackles the challenges in preparing students for secondary education. They also observed the community's commitment to these children in a newly refurbished building tht hosts a complete health clinic and Kent School Services Network which provides a wide range of human and social services to students and families.
The visit was a part of an educational/cultural exploration program sponsored by England's national education association. The teachers hope to implement some of the best programs and practices they observed back in their home district in England.
