New College & Accelerated Learning Opportunities at KCTC

NEW COLLEGE AND ACCELERATED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT
KENT CAREER TECHNICAL CENTER

Grand Rapids – Three new advanced education opportunities will be available to Kent Career Technical Center this year, allowing students the opportunity to earn college credit from Grand Rapids Community College and Ferris State University and accelerate their completion of required courses through online learning.

Beginning in September, students will be able to enroll in English and Math courses from Grand Rapids Community College, which will be offered in a wing of the Kent Career Technical Center.  In the second semester, second-year culinary arts students will earn direct credit from Ferris State University.

A partnership with Michigan Virtual University will bring three new opportunities for students as well.  KCTC students will be able to earn full credit for the 4th Math, 4th English and 3rd Science Class in the Michigan Merit Curriculum sequence at KCTC. Students who have fallen behind in their coursework will be able to take online courses for credit to catch up with their requirements and stay on track to graduate.

“Students who are looking for a fast track to college and careers can find it in these new opportunities at Kent Career Technical Center,” said Kent ISD Superintendent Kevin Konarska.  “For years, we’ve offered students the opportunity to garner college credit through agreements with more than a dozen colleges and post-secondary training institutions.

“Now, with these new opportunities, students will be able to earn direct credit while taking the required courses they need to graduate from high school.  These students are getting a head start on their college degrees and they are saving their families thousands of dollars in tuition at the same time.”
