Kent ISD Adds to Student Art Collection
Several new pieces of student art will soon hang on the walls of Kent ISD’s Educational Service Center. The works of art were all entrants in Representative Vern Ehlers’ 2009 Regional Congressional Arts Competition. Several Kent ISD staff members acted as local judges for the competition and also selected the pieces to purchase.
Among the newly acquired artwork is a duplicate of the winning piece that will be on display at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. for the next year. The winner is a digital photograph and is the first digital piece to ever win Representative Ehlers’ competition. It is also the first winner that has been reproducible and available for purchase.
Kent ISD also purchased two pieces created by East Kentwood High School students. "Electrifying" is a digital piece depicting a character from a story the artist is writing. The second piece called "Whenever I Breathe Out," portrays a seaside city and is done in oil pastel, watercolor, acrylic and china marker.
Watch for the new artwork coming soon!
