Byron Center Middle School Art on Display

GRAND RAPIDS – Various art from Byron Center West Middle School artists is now on view at Kent ISD.   Collages, paintings, photography and digital art can be viewed in the lobby at 2930 Knapp NE during business hours now through November 20.

The 7th and 8th grade student artists, taught by art teacher Janine Campbell, have been studying and practicing art in a variety of media as evidenced in the diversity of pieces on display.

“Byron Center tries to provide a comprehensive and sequential visual arts program that meets the needs of all students,” says Campbell. “We want the program to build visual literacy and enhance creative skills through producing, analyzing and comparing different art media.”

Campbell’s students post their work to Artsonia, an online art museum that anyone can view. Byron Center West Middle School is currently ranked in the site’s top ten participating middle schools in Michigan. You can see their collection of works at www.artsonia.com/schools/byron1.

The Byron Center West Middle School art display is one of a series during the year from schools within Kent ISD.  Other districts with lobby displays this year include Caledonia, Grandville, and Thornapple Kellogg. East Grand Rapids High School will have a display in December.

Kent ISD also participates in Representative Vern Ehlers’ annual Congressional Arts Competition, serving as local judges and occasionally offering purchase awards to student winners.
